Walnuts are defending from prostate cancer
Nuts may help against prostate cancer by regulating the activity of genes involved, hindering the growth of the tumor (if present).
The research suggests a University of California, directed by Dr. Paul Davies and presented at the meeting in San Francisco of the American Chemical Association.
The team of Davies has worked with some rodents genetically engineered to develop prostate cancer. The animals were divided into 2 groups: some were fed the equivalent of 70 grams of walnuts per day for humans, other (control group) no. All for 18 weeks.
At the end of that period, it was noticed that the mice fed walnuts showed a tumor growth by 30-40% lower than the control group, combined with lower levels of IGF-1, a protein associated with the development of this type cancer. In addition, nuts have an effect on many surveillance genes related to metabolism.
It should also be noted, explain the researchers, previous research had already linked the nuts to human health, for example against cardiovascular disease.
Credit for all benefits is omega-3 fatty acids, contents from dried fruit.
Met Dr Davies: “This study has shown that an experimental quantity ‘nut easily take even checked the man keeps the tumor, and I have good hopes that this can happen even in the patients.”
However, the doctor warns to be effective, the consumption of nuts must be weighed and inserted “Within a balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables.”
