Green tea has gained the reputation it has in the world, largely due to the polyphenols, the substance that contains many of its properties. With these, commonly known as catechins, green tea can be considered one of the great man’s natural allies.Basically, the green tea polyphenol-type has four catechins: the epicatechin, epicatechin gallate, epigallocatechin and the epigallocatechin gallate.

These catechins are highly valued in the consumption of tea as they are the substances that have anticancer and antioxidant, especially those concerning the epigallocatechin-gallate, the major polyphenol present in green tea. Already there are several animal studies have clearly demonstrated that green tea can act brilliantly in preventing various cancers.

Among the studies which confirm the use of green tea for its good properties, the Doctor is Jankunas, who has indicated that the polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate can inhibit the enzyme urokinase, high in cancer patients. Japanese Sadzuka also indicated that green tea is good to eat during chemotherapy treatments.

Finally, some studies in the National Cancer Institute of USA and also in the China Cancer Institute revealed that in 902 Chinese patients with oesophageal cancer and 1552 patients without cancer, found that non-smoking male patients took at least a cup of tea a week had 57 percent lower risk female patients and 60 percent lower risk of developing esophageal cancer than those who did not drink tea during the same period.
