Possible genetic basis of colon cancer
The Institute of Cancer Research UK published a study that shows that certain genes could be related to increased colorectal cancer risk.
The research was based on a genome in which analyzed approximately 500,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms in individuals with familial colorectal cancer and in control subjects.
The results showed an association between the presence of certain genes altered (Smad7) and an increased risk of developing the disease with a high degree of statistical significance. These altered genes encode an intracellular molecule that inhibits intracellular signaling mechanisms in a large number of tissues including the colon.
Since we know the human genome, more and more are discovered genetic-based diseases, so in the future could be detected, prevented and cured before they appear.
