4) controlled studies, randomized prospectively made are expensive and complicated. The research is funded or mistletoe just what was never publicly funded. The funding of existing trials was achieved mainly by contributions from the producers of this drug. And these laboratories, for its small size, have-not unlike the large multinational pharmaceutical-huge research budgets to make possible the kind of studies required by the official Oncology.
In addition, oncologists have preferred to give up a first-order therapeutic tool compatible with conventional treatments and ignore the scientific literature that explains the use of mistletoe is translated into improved survival, a substantial improvement in the quality of life and greater tolerance to cytotoxic treatments. In 2001 the journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine published the results of a study entitled Viscum Album in Cancer Treatment: A Systematic Investigation Epidemiology Viscum album was made for 30 years more than 35,000 residents of Heidelberg (Germany). We first chose a group of 5,000 patients who had cancer, and among them, the researchers chose more than 300 pairs of participants with the same type and stage of disease. And members of one group were given mistletoe extract in addition to conventional treatment. Well, after comparing the survival time of those who added it was found that mistletoe extract treatment lived 40% more than those who did not. “Such long-term study of high quality and scientifically rigorous is costly and difficult as this information is especially valuable-manifest David Riley, MD, Director of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, the leading publication on CAM – . More and more data from basic science and clinical evidence of the efficacy of mistletoe which is the drug most common cancer in Germany. ”
Five months later the same journal published another study: Use of Iscador, an extract of European mistletoe (Viscum album), in cancer treatment: prospective nonrandomized and randomized matched-pair studies nested within a cohort study. And it was written: “Although Iscador is considered an alternative therapy for cancer is the most commonly used oncological drug in Germany.” The same authors sought to determine whether treatment with Iscador prolonged the survival time in patients with carcinoma of the colon, rectum, stomach, breast cancer, with or without distant metastases or axillary-and bronchogenic carcinoma, small cell and non-small – and explore possible synergies between Iscador treatment and psychosomatic effects. They concluded that Iscador provides a survival prolongation of clinically relevant cancer patients while improving their own psychosomatic state.
